Valve Corporation has recently released a heavy update for its popular shooter Team Fortress 2. This update introduces Arena Mode (a new map) which places a significant emphasis on combat between two opposing teams and the strategic choices these teams make during combat. Additionally Arena Mode incorporates smaller maps and shorter match times. Smaller combat fields and a reduced time limit help to create a more competitive battle as players are required to make smarter decisions during the fight. This heavy update also necessitates that players choose members of their team wisely as it will be imperative to choose team members whose character class counters those on opposing teams. While Arena Mode supports knock down drag out twenty four player clashes, this mode excels in battles which involve two teams of made up of three players each.

Not only does the Team Fortress 2 heavy update include new battle modes, but it also introduces several handicaps that further encourage players to implement and utilize strategies that include recruiting players that will create a well rounded party. Players will perhaps appreciate the restrictions placed on Health pickups more than any other. Health pickups are extremely uncommon inside Arena Mode which promotes smart combat. As health is in limited supply within this mode players should take care in choosing their team mates. In Arena Mode Medics and Engineers become indispensable members of the team which increases their role and importance within the game. Scouts as well as the Spy have an expanded and more appreciated role within Arena Mode as knowing the location of your enemy may be your key to victory. Arena Mode creates a more competitive environment for players who enjoy performing tasks outside of button mashing or utilizing heavy weapons exclusively to win battles.

Adding to the more competitive nature of Arena Mode, the latest TF2 update brings with it five maps designed to challenge teams like never before. Of the five maps two are new to the fray and have never been seen by TF2 players. The two new maps, The Lumberyard and the Ravine have been designed specifically for Arena Mode and will challenge even the most experienced player while The Well, Granary, and Badlands have been reprogrammed to function within Arena Mode’s unique settings.

With everything Arena Mode brings to TF2, it is easy to perceive why Valve has labeled this update as a heavy update. The Team Fortress 2 faithful itching for a well rounded combat experience will be thrilled with this update, which really helps to reinvigorate the game for its battle hardened veterans.

The Crtitzcrieg: Increase critical shots to 100% on the person you’re using it on. You need 2/3 of your achievements completed for this one. 24 achievements

The Ubersaw: Melee damage with the Ubersaw goes directly towards your uber meter. You will need all 36 achievements for this one!
